Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group has taken over management of CastaDiva Resort & Spa on Lake Como, Italy.
The hotel group will rebrand the property as Mandarin Oriental, Lake Como in spring 2019 following an extensive renovation of its facilities. The resort will be Mandarin Oriental’s first resort in West Europe and the company’s second in Italy after the Mandarin Oriental, Milan.
The Mandarin Oriental resort has 76 guestrooms and suites within nine 19th-century villas. Two of the villas will be bookable in their entirety. The property is near villas, gardens, villages, Milan Malpensa airport and parkland with hiking trails, boating and other water activities.
Funds managed by London-based Attestor Capital acquired CastaDiva Resort & Spa in 2017.
Mandarin Oriental has another eight hotels operating across Europe in Barcelona, Madrid, Geneva, Milan, London, Munich, Paris and Prague. The group recently added Mandarin Oriental, Canouan in St. Vincent and The Grenadines to its global portfolio. The 26-room hotel, which originally operated as the Pink Sands Club, Canouan is the group’s first property in the Caribbean. Mandarin Oriental will also manage a new Residences at Mandarin Oriental close to the hotel, which is slated to open by 2020.
The company signed its second hotel in the Caribbean a month earlier. Mandarin Oriental will open the 100-room Mandarin Oriental, Grand Cayman on a 67-acre plot at St. James Point. RAL Development Service will develop the project, which is owned by Melkonian Capital Management. The hotel will share the site with 89 branded Residences at Mandarin Oriental.
